NOTICE OF INTENT����������������� Addition of Option in Forensic Anthropology to the Master of Arts Degree in Anthropology; The University of Montana-Missoula

 

THAT:������������������������������������� The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes The University of Montana to add an option in Forensic Anthropology to the Master of Arts degree in Anthropology.

 

EXPLANATION:����������������������� The University of Montana offers the only Master of Arts degree in Anthropology with a specialty in physical anthropology in the State.� Students increasingly express interest in the forensic sciences, in general, and Forensic Anthropology, in particular.� The Department of Anthropology has added new courses to serve these students and has experienced growth in the number of students with interest in Forensic Anthropology.� Students often indicate a desire to pursue a graduate option in Forensic Anthropology similar to the Cultural Heritage option.� Professionals in the field of the forensic sciences express their belief that students have an advantage when it comes to employment if they actually have a notation on their transcript that says �Forensic Anthropology.�
