ITEM 125-2001-R1104  Authorization to Confer the Title of Professor Emeritus of Animal Science upon Donald C. Anderson; Montana State University-Bozeman


THAT:    Upon the occasion of the retirement Donald C. Anderson from the faculty of Montana State University, the Board of Regents wishes to express its appreciation for his service to the University, the Montana University System, and the people of the State of Montana.

 

EXPLANATION:  Donald C. Anderson is retiring after serving for 35 years as a faculty member at Montana State University. He earned both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Animal Science at MSU and was hired in 1969 as an Assistant Professor in the College of Agriculture/Montana Agricultural Experiment Station, conducting research of beef cattle breeding and genetics at the Northern Agricultural Research Center (NARC). He was appointed as Superintendent at NARC in 1975 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1980. In 1987, he was promoted to Full Professor.

Mr. Anderson has authored or co-authored 29 refereed publications, 71 proceedings, 11 reviewed papers, 74 papers presented at scientific meetings, and 13 popular articles. He has contributed significantly to Montana=s livestock industry through his research evaluating the impact of scours on calf performance, measurement of beef cattle for prediction of production traits, selection for low birth weights coupled with increases in weaning and yearling weights, and the genetics of body composition in cattle.

Mr. Anderson has served the University through his administration of the NARC and his active membership on the College of Agriculture Promotion and Tenure Committee and the MSU Faculty Council. He served his profession through membership on the NC-186 Regional Beef Cattle Research Committee. And he served the state of Montana as Director of the Fort Assiniboine Preservation Association and as Carcass Evaluator for the State Steer of Merit Program.

For these and other contributions, the Board of Regents of Higher Education is pleased to confer upon Donald C. Anderson the rank of Professor Emeritus of Animal Science at Montana State University and wishes him well for many years in the future.
