ITEM 124-2006-R0904   Authorization to Enter into a Long-term Lease with the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 2.08 acres located on the MSU Eastern Agricultural Research Center; Montana State University

THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State University to execute the Long Term Lease Agreement with the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

 

EXPLANATION: The Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture desires to construct a building on property located adjacent to the MSU Eastern Agricultural Research Center. They have requested the right to lease 2.08 acres of land located on the Eastern Agricultural Research Center to allow sufficient space for the building. EARC does not currently have a use for the small strip of land and desires to lease to ARS to facilitate the location of the new building. EARC and MSU have a cooperative research working relationship with ARS and will benefit from the improved research opportunities that will result from the construction of a new building and the continuing positive relationship with the ARS. A copy of the proposed lease is attached for review.
