ITEM 123-1014-R0504  Naming the Lewis and Clark Village Community Center the Barbara Hollmann Community Center; The University of Montana - Missoula


THAT: Consistent with Board of Regents' Policy 1004.1, Naming of Buildings, the Board of Regents of the Montana University System authorizes The University of Montana-Missoula to name the new Lewis and Clark Village Community Center the "Barbara Hollmann Community Center."

EXPLANATION: Dr. Barbara Hollmann was Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students at The University of Montana from 1987 to 2003. Upon her retirement, the Board of Regents of The Montana University System granted her the title Vice President for Student Affairs Emerita. She came to Montana in 1980 as Associate Director of Athletics. In May 2000, Barbara received an Excellence in Leadership Award from the State of Montana after being nominated by The University of Montana for the "Woman in Public Leadership" category. She was selected by the Fulbright Commission to participate in the Administrators' Seminar on German Higher Education in Germany during May 2001. In honor of her retirement in 2003, the Associated Students of The University of Montana established the Barbara Hollmann Administrator of the Year Award. Barbara retired from The University of Montana in 2003 after twenty-three years of service to students and the University.

This naming request was taken to the Campus Committee for Facilities where it was presented, discussed and ultimately received unanimous approval.
