RE: Approval of Tentative Agreement with AFSCME Local 2235

Attached is a summary of the tentative agreement with AFSCME Local 2235. This agreement covers approximately 65 classified employees at MSU-Northern who perform a wide range of clerical, technical, custodial, skilled craft and food service duties. The summary shows only the changes to the prior agreement. The entire agreement can be viewed on line at https://www.mus.edu/hr/cba/collbarg.html. 

The tentative agreement with AFSCME Local 2235 essentially rolls over the 2001-2003 agreement until June 30, 2005 with only three changes. The salary package is the same as under the previously approved MPEA agreement. In addition to the .5% of achievement pay on June 30th of each year, employees will receive a 25 cent increase on January 1, 2005. A commitment was made to establish a Labor-Management Committee. The Regents' policy on dependent tuition waivers was adopted.

The bargaining unit will have voted to ratify the tentative agreement before the January Regent meeting, or this item will be withdrawn from the agenda. Assuming the bargaining unit ratifies the tentative agreement, I recommend approval of the tentative agreement with AFSCME Local 2235.
