ITEM 122-1010-R0304:  Planning for New Futures Park; The University of Montana-Missoula

THAT: Consistent with the provisions of MCA 20-25-302, the Board of Regents of the Montana University System authorizes The University of Montana to implement steps necessary plan a new Futures Park Facility for The College of Technology. The schematic planning for this facility will not exceed $750,000.00 and will be financed with revenues from a federal grant for this purpose.

EXPLANATION: The Futures Park is conceptualized as a one-of-a-kind, sustainable college campus that: provides full-range, state-of-the-art education and training; demonstrates cutting-edge technologies; creates a one-stop community development center; and fosters economic development. A vast array of business and industry stimulated program opportunities would be available in student-centered learning environment conducive to matching individual student skills and abilities with programs that meet present and futures needs of the community, business and industry. Realizing the symbiotic relationship between education and business will allow students to maximize their potential and make contributions in a real world environment that builds a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
