This authority request is for an amount greater than $150,000, which requires the following additional information:
(a) Project Description:
This project will renovate the existing Atrium in the EPS Building. This upgrade will install state-of the art electronic equipment, thins screens, computer software, interactive systems, and other high-tech equipment within the Atrium space. Equipment will be mounted on the walls, upper balcony, and ceiling and within the existing Atrium floor footprint. This equipment will be able to receive and project images from satellites, computer software, and other sources from around the world.
Cost Estimate and Funding Sources:
The entire project is anticipated to be valued at $2,500,000. Funding for the project will come from private sources including monetary donations, and donations of equipment, engineering expertise, and other in-kind donations.
(b) Programs served, enrollment data and projected enrollment:
The Atrium in the EPS Building is a public space, and will continue to serve as such after this renovation. Departments in the EPS Building and across campus use this space for various events, and this will continue.
(c) Space Utilization Data:
The EPS Atrium consists of 1992 sf, and functions as the main lobby for the building. The square footage will remain the same, but it is anticipated that the use of this space will increase significantly. It will showcase technology, interdisciplinary exploration, and discovery at MSU.
(d) Projected use for available residual space:

(e) Projected O&M Costs and proposed funding sources:
General Operations &Maintenance costs for the Atrium space itself are not expected to be affected by this technology-focused renovation and will continue to be a university cost. Costs for maintaining the technology will be covered from non-state sources.
