ITEM 119-1903-R0503  Approval of Proposal to Establish an Associate of Arts Degree; The University of Montana-Helena College of Technology

THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes The University of Montana-Helena College of Technology to offer an Associate of Arts degree, which responds to the needs of area students who plan to transfer into baccalaureate-degree programs in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

EXPLANATION: UM-HCT currently offers an Associate of Science degree. An Associate of Arts degree will provide a logical expansion of UM-HCT's transfer offerings to meet the needs of students who are seeking baccalaureate degrees in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. A needs assessment of current UM-HCT transfer students indicates a strong market for an Associate of Arts degree, and the proposed degree will expand public higher education options for Helena-area residents.
