ITEM 118-2701-R0303     Authorization to Confer The Title of Professor Emeritus of Sociology upon Professor Ruey-Lin Lin; Montana State University-Billings


WHEREAS, Professor Ruey-Lin Lin has completed a distinguished teaching career of thirty-one years, including twenty-nine years at the Montana State University-Billings, formerly Eastern Montana College;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Lin has served as a member of numerous campus bodies including the Faculty Senate, Campus-wide Budget Committee, Faculty Association Bargaining Team, Graduate Candidacy Admission Review Committee, Sabbatical Committee, Department Chair;

 

WHEREAS, he has served as a member of the Review Committee for the Montana's Statewide Transfer Core Curriculum, the Council for American Indian Education Achievement;

 

WHEREAS, he has served as a member of the United States Commission on Civil Rights/Montana Advisory Committee;

 

WHEREAS, he has co-founded and served on the Billings Crime Prevention Council;

 

WHEREAS, he has presented many papers in his field of crime and justice at scholarly conferences held in the United States and Taiwan;

 

WHEREAS, he has published numerous articles in his field of crime and justice in scholarly journals and official reports in the United States and Taiwan;

 

WHEREAS, he has been interviewed on local television and radio stations for his research on Montana criminal justice system, and his research findings have been reported on newspapers statewide;

 

WHEREAS, he has received recognition through grants from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Justice, for conducting training workshops and research;

 

WHEREAS, he has received the Outstanding Scholar Awards, Teaching Merit Award, Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and Distinguished Community Crime Prevention Service Award;

 

AND WHEREAS, Montana State University-Billings wishes to honor Professor Lin for his outstanding service to education and his discipline;

 

THEREFORE, the Board of Regents of Higher Education, on the recommendation of the Chancellor of Montana State University-Billings, confers upon Dr. Ruey-Lin Lin the title of Professor of Sociology Emeritus, with all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities pertaining thereto.
