ITEM 115-1006-R0502 Authorization to Confer the Title of Professor Emeritus of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences upon Rustem S. Medora; The University of Montana-Missoula
THAT: Rustem S. Medora, in his 35 years of dedicated service to The University of Montana, has merited the commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System and has earned the title of Professor Emeritus of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences.
EXPLANATION: Rustem Medora earned his baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy in Ahmedabad, India, in 1958, his M.S. in Pharmacy from Ahmedabad in 1960, and his Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy from the College of Pharmacy, University of Rhode Island, in 1966. In addition, he served as a Lecturer and Junior Scientific Officer at L.M. College of Pharmacy in India from 1960-1961, as an Assistant Professor at Idaho State University from 1965-1966, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate at McGill University in Canada from 1966-1967.
Professor Medora began his employment at The University of Montana in 1967 as an Assistant Professor with the School of Pharmacy. From 1972 to 1979, he earned promotions to Associate Professor and Professor. He has always enjoyed high student evaluations for his many and various courses and especially for his dedication and caring attitude. He has an outstanding publication record of several books and many articles, and he received the Mershon Award for his lifetime efforts for research, service, and teaching.
In addition to his duties and responsibilities at the School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences, Professor Medora has successfully organized a number of workshops on Aging, which covered a wide range of social and ethical issues. Professor Medora assisted with bringing Elderhostel (a humanities program) to The University of Montana, the first campus to offer such a program west of the Mississippi. Additionally, he is well known for his very popular Montana Public Radio Program--The Plant Detective. He also was instrumental in securing extramural funding for The University of Montana to bring more minority students to campus.
With this recommendation goes sincere thanks for 35 years of invaluable service to the School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences, The University of Montana, and the State of Montana.
