ITEM 114-2801-R0302   Authorization to Confer the Title of Professor Emeritus of Metals Technology on Conrad Nystrom; Montana State University-Northern


THAT: Upon his retirement, Conrad Nystrom, Professor of Metals Technology at Montana State University-Northern, merits the title Professor Emeritus in recognition of his excellent teaching and notable professional and institutional service throughout his career at Montana State University-Northern.

 

EXPLANATION: Professor Nystrom was first employed at Montana State University-Northern as a part-time instructor in 1962 and became full-time in 1968. He was promoted to full professor in 1991. During his tenure at Montana State University-Northern, Professor Nystrom taught a wide range of beginning and advanced welding courses, metallurgy, metal sculpture courses, and a course on forage harvest implements for the agriculture program.

Throughout his career at Montana State University-Northern, Professor Nystrom participated in various forms of institutional and professional service. He served on most of the University's standing committees and has been a long-time member of the American Welding Society, the Montana Industrial Technical Education Association, and a juror for the Lincoln Electric Program. He has participated faithfully in professional conferences for technology education at the state level and has continuously served as co-chair for the welding contest of the Montana VICA Skills Olympics.

Professor Nystrom has enthusiastically developed new service courses for various programs at the institution, presented numerous teacher update courses and has provided the lab component for interdisciplinary courses in metal sculpture. He has also been a faithful member of the Hill County Soil Conservation District.

Professor Nystrom's dedication to teaching, his service to the community, and his contributions to continuing education merit conferral of the title of Professor Emeritus of Metals Technology.
