ITEM 112-1011-R0701 Professor Emeritus Status for Dennis Lerum, Professor, College of Technology; The University of Montana-Missoula
THAT: Dennis Lerum, Professor, in his 34 years of service to The University of Montana, has merited the appreciation and commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and the title of Professor Emeritus.
EXPLANATION: Dennis Lerum joined the College of Technology faculty (then the Missoula Vocational-Technical Center) and the Department of Electronics in 1967. He became chair of the department in 1968 and in 1972 was appointed academic officer of the College. He served in that capacity until 1981 when he was appointed Director of the College. When the College merged with The University of Montana in 1994 he became Dean of the College and has served in that capacity since then.
During his tenure as an administrator of the College, Dean Lerum has guided the College through a number of College governance and administrative changes, developed and implemented programs in response to Montana's workforce development needs, and served the University and State through his participation on workforce and education-related advisory boards, task forces, and councils.
Dean Lerum guided the College through a successful institutional accreditation process in 1974, the first technical college to attempt such an effort. Since then he has participated in regional accreditation activities as an evaluator, commissioner, and evaluation committee chair serving on 48 evaluation committees, chairing 12 of them.
The College of Technology proudly recommends Professor Dennis Lerum for Emeritus status.
