RE: Campus Report for the March 22-23, 2001 Board of Regents Meeting
- Mr. Cleo Sutton, Construction Technology Instructor, traveled with a group of UM-Western faculty to South Africa to teach Vocational Education instructors in technical education. The South African teachers will be coming to the United States this summer to learn more about technical education in the United States.
- The annualized FTE for HCT came in at 721for FY2001, which is a 2.4% increase above FY2000.
- College personnel have met twice with ASARCO employees since the announcement of the pending layoff later this spring. Many of the employees are serious about starting degree programs at HCT this fall.
- The Metals Technology students toured and interviewed with Semitool in Kalispell on March 1. Two were hired as Machinists starting at $30,000.
- Summit Design and Manufacturing hired several welding students to construct scaffolding for the manufacturing of the Extended C130 military cargo aircraft. Six students traveled to Atlanta to finish the assembly of the scaffolding onsite at the Boeing plant.
- Several HCT faculty took time over their Christmas break to talk to high school students about HCT and opportunities in two-year technical education. They met with classes in approximately 60 high schools.
- The Legislative Long Range Building Plan Committee allocated $365,000 for the planning and design for the construction of a new classroom facility.
