ITEM 102-1007-R0399 Approval of Proposal to Add Two New Options -- Network Support and Human Resources -- to the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting Technology, College of Technology; The University of Montana-Missoula
THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes the College of Technology of The University of Montana-Missoula to offer a Network Support Option and a Human Resources Option to the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Accounting Technology.
EXPLANATION: Many small firms expect their accountants to maintain the computer systems, administer backup procedures and data security, and recommend software/hardware upgrades to executive management. Greater expertise in this area will enhance the employability of the two-year accounting technology graduate.
Human resources also employs accounting personnel who must have a baseline understanding of payroll and pension accounting which includes wages, benefits, and taxes. Greater expertise in the areas of benefits administration, maintenance of personnel records, and compliance with federal and state employment laws will enhance the employability of the two-year accounting technology graduate.
This proposal will allow students to choose from a general accounting technology degree as currently offered, or one with an option in either network support or human resources, depending on their area of interest and the type of position they seek after graduation.
