ITEM 122-2702-R0304 �������������� Authorization to Confer The Title of Professor Emeritus of Educational Theory and Practice upon Professor Marlene LaCounte;� Montana State University-Billings

 

WHEREAS, Professor Marlene F. LaCounte has completed a distinguished teaching career of 33 years, including 21 years at Montana State University-Billings, formerly Eastern Montana College.

 

WHEREAS, Professor LaCounte served the Department of Curriculum and Instruction as chair for five years;

 

WHEREAS, Professor LaCounte has been successful in securing close to $2 million of external grant funding, most notably the Northern Lights Telecommunication Project, the Teacher Training with Teams, Themes, and Technology Project, and We the People Project, and served as the Director of these projects;

 

WHEREAS, Professor LaCounte has served on numerous campus bodies including the Faculty Senate, the University Rank and Tenure Committee, and the Graduate Committee;

 

WHEREAS, Professor LaCounte served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Montana College Foundation;

 

WHEREAS, Professor LaCounte has served the profession by maintaining an active agenda of conference presentations at state, regional, national, and international venues;

 

WHEREAS, Professor LaCounte has served teachers in Montana through leadership of the Montana Council for the Social Sciences;

 

WHEREAS, Professor LaCounte has served the educational community as coordinator of the Model United Nations at MSU-Billings for six years, as state coordinator for the Center for Civic Education, as the Director of the �We the People� Regional Institute, as the judge for the Montana Geography Bee for five years, as a member of the Social Studies State Standards Committee, local coordinator of the Holocaust Workshop, and as a member of the Northwest Association of Teacher Educators Editorial Advisory Board;

 

AND WHEREAS, MSU-Billings wishes to honor Professor LaCounte for her outstanding service to education and to her discipline;

Therefore, the Board of Regents of Higher Education, on recommendation of the Chancellor of MSU-Billings, confers upon Dr. Marlene LaCounte the title of Professor of Educational Theory and Practice Emeritus, with all rights, privileges, and responsibilities pertaining thereto. �
