ITEM 119-1004-R0503��������������� Authorization to Confer the Title of Vice President for Student Affairs Emerita upon Barbara B. Hollmann; The University of Montana-Missoula

 

THAT:�������������������������������������� Barbara B. Hollmann, Vice President for Student Affairs, in 23 years of service to The University of Montana has earned the appreciation and commendation of the Board of Regents of Higher Education, and deserves recognition as Vice President for Student Affairs Emerita.

 

EXPLANATION:����������������������� Barbara Hollmann graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education, followed by an M.A. in Recreation Administration.� She later received her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Arizona.�

 

Dr. Hollmann joined The University of Montana in 1980 as the Associate Director of Athletics and Adjunct Assistant Professor.� In 1987, she became the Dean of Students, and in 2000, Vice President for Student Affairs.� In the latter role, Dr. Hollmann held primary responsibility for the University�s Division of Student Affairs, including student life, student services, and student learning outside the classroom.�

 

In recognition of her commitment to excellence, Dr. Hollmann has garnered numerous awards throughout her career.� She received two awards from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), Region V--the 2002 Scott Goodnight Award for Outstanding Performance as a Dean and the 2000 Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA--as well as the 2000 State of Montana Women in Government Excellence in Leadership Award.� In May 2001, Dr. Hollmann was selected as a Fulbright Scholar in Germany.

 

During her tenure, Dr. Hollmann participated in a wide range of University committees.� She also remained active in her profession and served in several capacities for NASPA, the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges� Council of Student Affairs, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.�� In addition, she has assisted the community well in a variety of roles as a member of the Board of Directors of Community Medical Center, Rotary International, United Way of Missoula County, and many others.

 

Dr. Hollmann has served the University, State of Montana, and nation with distinction.� The University of Montana-Missoula proudly recommends Dr. Barbara B. Hollmann for Emerita status.
