THAT:����������������������������������� The
Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes The University of
Montana-Missoula to change the name Montana University Affiliated Rural
Institute on Disabilities to The University of Montana Center for Excellence in
Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service:� The Rural Institute The
University of Montana Rural Institute: A Center for Excellence in Developmental
Disabilities Education, Research, and Service.
EXPLANATION:����������������� The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000, P.L. 106-402, dated October 30, 2000, is the authorizing legislation which provides federal fiscal support for the University Affiliated Program.� The passage of this law has changed the name of University Affiliated Programs to Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (S.1809-43, Section 151). Following the legal intent of the law, this proposal would allow the unit to keep the well-known �Rural Institute� reference and also bring it into compliance with federal law.
