Perkins 2008-12 State Plan, Plan Summary Available for Review
Report to Legislature
This report provides a summary of the Carl D. Perkins legislation reauthorized in 2006 and the steps taken to create the final Montana State Plan for Career and Technical Education: FY 2008-2012 to achieve the priorities of the new legislation to improve access and success of Montana’s students.
Final Perkins Plan 2008-2012
This plan has taken effect from July 1, 2008. It has been approved by the Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Higher Education. Hans Meeder, from Meeder Consulting, LLC contracted with the state to assist in the development of the State Plan for Montana.
The Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education is managing the Montana's Agro-Energy Plan (MAP-WIRED) grant program, under contract from the Montana Department of Labor and Industry, involving two-year colleges and K-12 programs. The funds available for grants are approximately $1.2 million per year. The Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development in Selected Regions (WIRED) federal grant funding was created to assist regions like Eastern Montana that have industries in decline or have an area in need of industry growth.
The Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education has chosen four post secondary institutions to receive funding under Montana's Agro-Energy Plan. The successful institutions include: Dawson Community College, Fort Peck Community College, Miles Community College and MSU-Northern. All of these institutions reside within the 32 Montana counties designated for these federal funds. The institutions will share the million dollar annual three-year allocation. The funds must be used to provide job training or assist in the development and implementation of model activities related to the bioproducts industry. These educational grants encourage the colleges to partner with other colleges, K-12 schools, community based organizations, businesses, and entrepreneurs.
Grant Specialist Dr. David Hall (406-444-0608) is overseeing the project for the Commissioner's Office of Higher Education. For more information on the WIRED grant please click on the link below:
