- Discussions continue with the Student Assistance Foundation regarding OCHE and the Board of Public Education moving back into the office space vacated in October 2005. The Guaranteed Student Loan division (50% of the OCHE employees) has continued to lease space in the SAF Building, with an advantageous lease continuing until 2014. We would expect to achieve certain operational synergies from this renewed co-location of our offices.
- Gov Schweitzer appointed Associate Commissioner Tyler Trevor to the State Workforce Investment Board.
- Dr. Mary Sheehy Moe, the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner for Two-year Education, helped facilitate a session with various agency directors at The Governor’s Workforce Conference held in Billings on May 21-22.
- Higher Education Act Nears Completion, but Major Hurdles Remain: New details on a compromise bill to renew the Higher Education Act leaked out on Wednesday, as negotiations continued on the measure. (click for details).
- The University of Montana received acknowledgement from Director of Corrections, Mike Ferriter, for a documentary produced by students from the Radio-Television Department on the lives of women incarcerated in Montana. (letter from Director Ferriter)
- Ellen Swaney, OCHE Director of American Indian/Minority Achievement, conducted a workshop entitled "A Different Place, the Intercultural Classroom" at the Native American Student Advocacy Institute held in Tsaile, Arizona on May 20–21.
