Montana's Quality Higher Education System

Transferability Facts

  • While enrollment has steadily increased in the MUS, the number of students transferring each semester has slightly declined. In Fall 2002, 2,949 students were identified as “transfer students;” by Fall 2006 that number dropped to 2,816.

  • In 2005-06, 37% of MUS bachelor’s degree recipients had transferred at least once (i.e. enrolled in more than one institution located anywhere in nation).

  • On average, the median number of credits earned by transfer students receiving  MUS bachelor’s degrees is 9 credits more than non-transfer students.

  • The percent of MUS students enrolling in more than one institution throughout their educational endeavors (41%) is comparable to the national student mobility rate (40%).
  • In the MUS, approximately 40% of students earning Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees continue to further their education within the System.

  • Studies on transfer rates of students in the MUS indicate that enrolling in multiple MUS institutions does not adversely affect student persistence.
