ITEM 126-2701-R0305��������������� Authorization to Confer The Title of Professor Emeritus of History upon Norton H. Moses; Montana State University-Billings

 

WHEREAS, Professor Norton H. Moses is completing a distinguished teaching career of almost forty years, including thirty-six years at Montana State University, formerly Eastern Montana College, and including three and one-half years at Amarillo College in Texas;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Moses has served Eastern Montana College and Montana State University-Billings on College and University committees too numerous to list and in many and varied volunteer capacities;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Moses has served his academic department on numerous committees as either member or chair and was acting chair of the History Department for a semester and has been the long-serving chair of the Department Rank and Tenure Committee;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Moses was the faculty advisor to the Intercollegiate Knights for four years and to the Student Senate for thirteen years;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Moses has performed many community service activities;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Moses has published a book on lynching and vigilantism in the United States, and a variety of articles and book reviews in scholarly journals, and has two additional books ready for publication;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Moses has attended many scholarly conferences and has chaired sessions, commented on papers, and presented papers at some of them;

 

WHEREAS, Professor Moses has received several merit awards from MSU-Billings and EMC, including $1,000 for ranking� second highest out of one hundred seventeen faculty members on the student evaluations of faculty the only time all faculty members were ranked;

 

AND WHEREAS, Montana State University-Billings wishes to honor Professor Norton H. Moses for his outstanding service to education and to his discipline;

 

THEREFORE, the Board of Regents of� Higher Education, on the recommendation of the Chancellor of Montana State University-Billings, confers upon Dr. Norton H. Moses the title of Professor of History Emeritus, with all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities pertaining thereto.
