RE: Approval of Tentative Agreement with Montana Nurses Association

DATE: November 15-16, 2001

Attached is a summary of the tentative agreement with the Montana Nurses Association (MNA). The summary only includes those sections of the agreement that were modified during this round of negotiations. The entire collective bargaining agreement is available for review on line at:

http://mus.edu/hr/cba/collbarg.asp. The MNA represents 4 nurses at the Student Health Service at Montana State University-Bozeman.

Employees in this bargaining unit participated in a pilot project under the Montana University System Achievement Project (MAP). As a result, negotiations were quite easy and took only one meeting. The wage settlement under the tentative agreement is identical to that negotiated with MPEA; a 4% increase on November 1, 2001; .5% achievement pay on November 1, 2003; 3.75% on November 1, 2003 and .5% achievement pay on June 1, 2003. Insurance contributions reflect the increases approved by the legislature. The reference in the agreement to the Nurses Practice Act and the Collective Bargaining for Nurses Act was expanded to cover employees and the association and a new provision was added that makes reference to the conflict of interest provisions included in state law. A prior letter of understanding on continuing education benefits was added to the collective bargaining agreement.

The bargaining unit is expected to ratify the tentative agreement prior to the Regent meeting or this item will be withdrawn. I recommend approval of the tentative agreement with MNA.
