ITEM 112-1001-R0901������ Professor Emeritus Status for William Elison, Professor of Library Science and Social Sciences Librarian, Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library; The University of Montana-Missoula

 

THAT: ���������������������������������� William Elison, Professor of Library Science and Social Sciences Librarian, in his 29 years of dedicated service to The University of Montana and to the State of Montana, merits the commendation of the Board of Regents of the Montana University System, and has earned the title of Professor of Library Services Emeritus.

 

EXPLANATION:� ��������������� Professor Elison received his B.S. degree from Brigham Young University in 1961; his M.A. from the University of Utah in 1968; and his M.L.S. from the University of Denver in 1970.� He worked at the New England College in New Hampshire as a reference librarian from 1970-1972.� In 1972, Professor Elison became the Social Sciences Librarian at The University of Montana and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2001.

 

During his years of service at the Mansfield Library, Professor Elison committed himself to providing top quality reference service and instruction to students and scholars.� His successful efforts to develop and build the social sciences collections provides a living legacy to current and future library users.� Professor Elison's expertise in negotiating with database vendors has provided electronic resources for the Mansfield Library and the affiliated campuses of The University of Montana.��

 

Professor Elison has also served for many years as a general advisor and as an involved and effective participant in faculty affairs across campus--with Faculty Senate, the Asian Studies Committee, and the Student Complaint Committee--to demonstrate a few of his contributions.

 

For these accomplishments and for his truly remarkable interest in providing students and scholars at The University of Montana with knowledge and research tools, the faculty and staff proudly recommend the commendation of the Board of Regents and the title, Professor of Library Services Emeritus, for Professor William Elison.
