EXPLANATION: The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000, P.L. 106-402, dated October 30, 2000, is the authorizing legislation which provides federal fiscal support for the University Affiliated Program. The passage of this law has changed the name of University Affiliated Programs to Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service (S.1809-43, Section 151). Following the legal intent of the law, this proposal would allow the unit to keep the well-known “Rural Institute” reference and also bring it into compliance with federal law.
