The civic duty leave policy covers very limited types of civic duty.  It has only been used infrequently.  The only persons eligible are those elected to serve as unpaid public officials, primarily school board members.  School board meetings are almost always held in the evening.  With the exception of civic duty leave, the university system follows the same leave provisions as the rest of state government.  It is therefore recommended that Policy 801.6 Civic duty leave be repealed.
