ITEM 106-2004-R0300 Authorization
to Renovate the Gardiner House to become the MSU President's Residence; Montana State University - Bozeman
THAT: Consistent with the provisions of MCA
18-2-102 (b), the Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana State
University - Bozeman to renovate the Gardiner House to become the MSU President's Residence. The estimated cost for this project is
$250,000.
EXPLANATION: 1. The Gardiner House was constructed in
1979, and was given to MSU-Bozeman in late 1994, upon the passing of the owner
Henry Gardiner.
2.
The wall, floor and ceiling
finishes in the house are deteriorated and must be addressed; existing lighting
is inadequate and inefficient requiring additional fixtures as well as
replacement of existing; countertops and cabinetry needs to be updated; the
house lacks a formal dining area; the house needs a humidification system due
to the dry climate; and the exterior landscaping requires rejuvenation as well
as additional lighting and maintenance to concrete surfaces.
3.
The proposed alterations are
intended to update the home=s interior finishes, provide a more adequate layout
to handle functions required of the President's Residence, make necessary site
improvements and complete other needed maintenance items and improvements.
4.
The source of funds for this
project will be a loan from Other Lawful Purpose (Pledged Revenues in excess of
Indenture Obligations) Funds.
MSU-Bozeman intends to sell the Spring Creek Residence, the current
Presidential Residence, and apply proceeds against said loan.
