ITEM 104-1502-R0999 Approval of Proposal to Add a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional and Technical Communication; Montana Tech of The University of Montana

THAT: The Board of Regents of Higher Education authorizes Montana Tech of The University of Montana to add a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional and Technical Communication. The Professional and Technical Communication option in the Bachelor of Science Degree in Society and Technology will be discontinued if the major is approved. The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Technical Communication would also be dropped.

EXPLANATION: The need for effective communication permeates our global society. As ever-advancing technology produces growth in the quantity, speed, and sophistication of information flow, successful professionals require enhanced communication skills to compete in this challenging new environment.

Since 1977, Montana Tech of The University of Montana has offered a Professional and Technical Communication option under its Society and Technology degree. With the increasing need for effective and efficient communication, Montana Tech now seeks approval of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional and Technical Communication (PTC).
