ITEM 104-1501-R0799 Professor Emeritus Status for Jean Bishop; Montana Tech of The University of Montana

THAT: Upon the occasion of the retirement of Jean Bishop from the faculty of Montana Tech of The University of Montana, the faculty wishes to express its appreciation for her years of dedicated and valued service to the College, the Library, and the State of Montana by recommending that the rank of Professor Emeritus be conferred upon her by the Board of Regents of the Montana University System.

EXPLANATION: Jean Bishop received her B.S. in education from Montana State University in 1960. She taught high school and was the school librarian at Whitehall until she came to Montana Tech in 1974 joining the library staff in Public Services where she was quickly promoted to Head of Public Services. In 1984, Jean received her Master's degree from North Texas University and in 1991 became Head of Reference. When the U.S. Department of Commence designated Montana Tech as the only Patent and Trademark Depository Library in Montana, Jean assumed responsibility for operation of this program in addition to fulfilling her responsibilities of providing information services to faculty and students. As the electronic information age developed, she quickly became adept at using, critically reviewing, and teaching others to use new electronic tools and evaluate the quality of the information they provide. Although primarily a librarian, Jean has taught short courses, workshops and formal courses, specializing in research methods and intellectual property. She currently holds the rank of Associate Professor.

With this recommendation go sincere thanks, congratulations and best wishes for the future.
